Rozin Technologies out of Minneapolis is pushing and selling a RFID type bracelet that will track who you have been close in contact with at your place of employment so that if an outbreak at your office occurs, they can perform contact tracing to see who got who sick.
Why do you need to know who got who sick? It's not being done intentionally. It's no different with the Flu or the common cold.
Will it help in stopping the virus? Probably not. It will only tell you who got sick from who. Nothing more. Right?
In theory, it sounds like nothing special or intrusive.
But wait. This technology is ripe for abuse.
Let's say your company administrator, who has access to all of the data being collected by those bracelets, decides that this tech would be great to see who affiliates with whom in the company and for how long and how often.
For example, Bob, who is the admin, is a liberal democrat. He notices that Jim and Tina, both conservatives, tend to be close to one another often and for what Bob considers, longer than normal periods of time. Bob now believes that there is a right-wing conspiracy afoot, or that Jim and Tina are having an office romance, and continues to monitor Jim and Tina's proximity via the bracelets. He's also decides to review all of their company emails and phone calls. He goes further by searching to see what social media posts Jim and Tina make on the internet. For extra security, he orders background checks on both of these company employees. He decides to "randomly" pick Jim and Tina for drug screening. He then decides to notify both Jim's and Tina's spouse that they may be having an affair at the office.
At what point did Bob cross the line? At what point did his actions become criminal? At what point did Bob trample on Jim's and Tina's constitutional rights? Will anyone actually investigate and care?
This needs to be stopped in it's tracks before it even becomes an issue.
They don't do contact tracing via RFID bracelets for Ebola in Africa, or Swine Flu in China.
So why should Americans be subjected to draconian surveillance practices in the United States, for a virus that seems to be no worse than the Flu and whose death numbers, based on multiple expert testimony, seem to be wholly overblown?
