Quietly and After Hours - US Mint Raises Silver Dollar to $169/Ounce!

While you and I were sleeping, the US Mint behind the scenes, raised their standard US Silver Eagle, 1 OZ coin from $90 something to $169 per coin/ounce.

Silver prices, while highest ever, are at $93.99/ounce on the metals market at 11:30 on 1/21/26.

What does the mint know that we don't?

On eBay, 2026 Silver Eagles are pre-selling for $125.47/coin/ounce.  $30 above spot prices.

Silver US Eagles pre-sales on Ebay $126/oz/coin

Even if you take into account that the coin advertised on usmint.gov was minted at the West Point mint, which is usually for collectors, $169 per coin is way outside of the realm of normalcy.  The US Mint coin is a basic uncirculated and ungraded coin!  MS70 graded coins, the highest grade available, selling on eBay for $125, way below the $169 at the US Mint.  What gives?

Looks like the mint and the secondary markets are adjusting silver prices faster than the actual metal market indexes and spot prices.

Makes you almost think that the metal dealers are somehow suppressing the market for some reason .... Hmmm....
